DRIVEWAY DEADLINE

WORK on resurfacing View Street is now set to get underway on June 24.

It will take two days.

One-way traffic will be allowed during that time.

This is the official word from our contractors, The Paving Lady.

But driveway paving will begin before that.

All residents should have received a letter from the contractors requesting that everyone respond and tell the Lady if you want your driveway redone. You should tell them whether you want an "overlay" or the "strip-pave" option. Residents received an individual price (based on square-footage) for each option.
Tell the lady what you want and arrange for direct payment.
Please contact them even if you want no work done.

While each resident pays for his or her own private driveway, there is no charge to individual members nor an assessment for the main road.

You can call Paving Lady at 561-572-2600 or send mail to 1000 W. Industrial Ave., Boynton Beach, FL 33462.    Fax No.: 561-572-2601

In the letter to residents, the Paving Lady states:
"The requirement for getting your driveway done at these prices means they have to all be done at the same time. Please call or fax to be added to the list or to option out by May 11, 2012."

To get your driveway paved after the others are done will incur a minimum cost of $1,500.

Remember, no vehicles can be left in the driveways during the driveway phase of the work.

Members were told about the plan to re-do the street in the last general meeting and approved the expenditure in a mail-in ballot. Votes were tallied by a committee on April 17. Only one shareholder voted against it.

SIGNS OF THE TIMES

SECURITY issues are always good to think about, so VSHOA has added a few signs that may help.

The new "Private" (photo at right) sign at the entrance seems to be at least partially effective at discouraging motorists and strollers from coming onto VSHOA property by mistake. We have all seen some immediate turnarounds.

Other folks are put on notice that their presence is not welcomed. While nobody can say exactly how effective the sign has been over the last few weeks, our best hunch is that it is working well.

Below left is a photo of the new no-trespassing sign set up on the east side of the wall on Dixie Highway. It is between the wall and Unit No. 1.

The sign is meant primarily to discourage people who might come over from the bus stop. Sometimes, we've noticed, people waiting for the bus seem to find it a long, boring process and they start looking
around for something to do. We mean to dissuade them from doing it on our property.

Let's hope this works.

In the photo below right, you see the flagpole at the east end of View Street. Near the base is the "No swimming" sign that was installed several months ago.

The sign was mandated by our liability insurance carrier. Seems to be a good idea. The sign is small and unobtrusive and the signpost fits right into the threads used to support the Christmas Tree every year.

In the photo of Old Glory, below, you'll also see the new solar-powered light installed to keep the flag illuminated all night and every night.

The light also provides us with a chance to experiment with solar lighting while contemplating the replacement of our street lights.

And if you had perfect vision, you might even notice
that our island in the background has been trimmed of
some unruly vegetation.

Looking good!

It's Gone

The old unit at No. 32 was removed today (Thursday, April 26) much to the delight of assembled spectators. (See photo)
It will be replaced next week (May 4) by another unit, more in keeping with a modern View Street. No. 32 will be the part-time home of Jason Riley.
The removal work was done by Lisa's Mobile Home Movers & Installers of Fort Pierce. The company also will be responsible for moving in the new mobile.
Jason is one of two new homeowners in the park. The other is Dave Hill of Shelton, Conn. who bought No. 17. He plans to move in later in the summer.

The trailer at No. 32 will be removed next Thursday (April 26) afternoon.

The company doing the work promises not to block traffic, but there could be some brief inconvenience.

If you must leave the park in the afternoon, it might be smart to park in a driveway on the west end of the street.

A new unit will be moved in to the spot on May 4.

Driving on the street may be interrupt briefly, so if you have an appointment somewhere, do the prudent thing and move your car.

Also counting were Linda Friend, Mary Ann Fox and Callie Green.

A big thanks to all the committee members for their work!

ROAD IMPROVEMENTS APPROVED

VSHOA members by written ballot have approved almost unanimously (one dissenting vote) the plan to re-pave the street.
The plan includes resurfacing of individual driveways if requested and paid for by individual homeowners. Members will be contacted in the near future about the driveway paving.
The financing of the main road work will come from VSHOA available funds and through a short-term bank loan.
A paving schedule will be announced shortly.
Watch this space!

FIREWORKS WILL BE BACK

The traditional Fourth of July fireworks display in Lantana will resume this year after a one-year break.
The pyrotechnics will be clearly visible from View Street.
The display has long been a high point on the VSHOA calendar. The Town suspended the fireworks last year for budgetary reasons.
The big bangs will originate on a barge parked near the Lantana Bridge. Things get underway at 9 p.m.
The bridge in now under reconstruction and won't reopen for about two years, but the Independence Day activity will not be affected.
Residents usually gather at the eastern end of the street to watch and to party!

BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING

SATURDAY, APRIL 7

11 A.M.

GATHERING PLACE

AGENDA

1. To consider a new unit.

TOP COP OUT

Lantana town officials fired Police Chief Jeff Tyson after his arrest in Boca Raton on charges of drunken driving and hit-and-run.Town Manager Michael Bornstein said Tyson violated at least five departmental rules, with behavior "unbecoming of a town employee either on or off duty, which would bring discredit or interfere with the town service."

Boca Raton police said Tyson, 51, was driving an unmarked police car northbound on Military Trail around 1 p.m. Wednesday when he crashed into the unmarked car of a Sheriff's Office deputy, who stopped in front of him at the traffic light at Spanish River Boulevard.

Commander Sean Scheller has temporarily replaced Tyson as police chief.

Tyson drove off, police said, but eventually stopped after the deputy followed with his emergency lights on. Breath tests showed Tyson's blood alcohol level at nearly three times the legal amount to drive, it was reported by the Sun-Sentinel and other media.

The action seems to end Tyson's brief stint — less than two years — as Lantana's top cop. The New Jersey native joined the department in 1999 after serving with Delray Beach and Palm Beach Shores police departments and the Sheriff's Office.
